Head Coach

Carrick Pell enters his first season as Norwich men’s head coach in 2026–27, succeeding Bob Weggler after 25 years. He was Babson’s head coach from 2012 and led that program from Division 4 to Division I-AA, including 2023 NCR Small College 15s and 7s national championships and a 2024 Premier Division semifinal. At Babson he developed three NCR All-Americans and more than 100 NCR Scholastic All-Americans. He served as a U.S. Marine Corps reconnaissance Marine from 1989–93 (Desert Shield/Storm) and in the U.S. Air Force from 1999–2003.

Austin Manhey ’19 (athletics bio, opens in a new tab)

Austin Manhey ’19 is a former Norwich player: a four-year starter, senior captain, and Chris Munn Rugby Scholarship recipient. He was an All-American as a sophomore (U-20) and played flanker, center, and fullback on a conference side unbeaten from 2017–19. He is in his fourth season on staff (2025–26), remains through the Pell transition, and coached the North team at the 2026 NCR Rising Stars Showcase.

Program notes

Carrick Pell is the men’s head coach as of 2026, succeeding longtime head coach Bob Weggler. Assistant coach Austin Manhey ’19 remains on staff.

Scrum Alum still looks to Weggler as director of rugby and a lasting part of the club’s story.
